Welcome to Velo Club Rutland
Velo Club Rutland was created in 2007 to help Cyclists meet new people in a friendly atmosphere. Since then the cycling club has grown to over 100 members. The club offers bikers a chance to ride a starter event to competing in races. Anyone can join from mountain bikers to road and touring riders of any age. We run a 50 mile Sunday Club Run from Rutland County Council car park in Oakham every week at 9.00am and a development ride of about 25 – 30 miles, The Café Ride, from Oakham Cycle Centre every Saturday at 10.00am. There is also a longer Saturday ride from here on the first Saturday of the month, around 45-50 miles at a moderate pace with café stop, leaving at 09.00am.
Specific details of these rides are normally posted on the Club Facebook page about 48 hours before the event. We also meet every Wednesday evening at 6.30pm outside The Horse & Jockey, Manton for a mountain bike (Mtb) ride. Throughout the winter the Mtb ride is run as a night ride. The club is affiliated with the Cycling Time Trials Council and British Cycling for those wishing to race. Membership of British Cycling or CTC is recommended to all active members. It is not a legal requirement to wear a cycle helmet on our rides however it is strongly recommended that one is worn whilst taking part in club events.
So why join us? Well firstly to get fit! Instead of paying gym fees why not join our cycling club. You can start with a gentle social ride leading up to a full race event - Imagine the sense of achievement you'll feel when you finish your first race! Club membership also offers great discounts with many local shops and services.
